How to use this program
Dead Disk Doctor
For example, one of your favorite DVD movies is scratched and the DVD player stopping and skipping during you watch the movie. You can solve it using Dead Disk Doctor, to copy files from damaged disk on to Hard Drive or to make a copy with corrected movie or music album.
Most of the time the copying algorithm allows to read data when standard utilities or devices cannot. But even if some part of the media is completely unreadable, it will be replaced with random data. As result, watching this way copied movie, may be you will see some video artifacts for the less then a second, which is much better the stops and skips.
Lets start. For example, you want to copy movie from scratched DVD on to computer hard drive. What should you do?
Clean the disk with cotton wool fabrics, insert disk in to DVD drive, run Dead Disk Doctor application. In appeared window choose "I want to copy files from damaged media to a specific folder" line, double clicking on it , or click "Next >" button .
Recovery process separated on few steps.
Dead Disk Doctor Step 1. Choose source drive on left part of the window clicking on it's icon. And in a main part of the window select files or folders which you want to copy.
Use Shift or Ctrl buttons to select a number of files or folders. Click "Next". Use double mouse click on folder name to enter it.
This buttons uses to return to previous folder or to go up of directories structure.
Disk Doctor Step 2. Selecting distention drive and folder, to proceed copying selected files. Here every thing just same like in a previous window, plus you can create a new folders clicking on specified icon..
Disk Doctor Step 3. Copying files. This process is fully automatic and does not require attention except when coping file that already exists, not enough room on hard drive or drive is not ready.

Drive Snapshot can restore a drive completely to its former state.
If you restore a drive, all current data on the drive will be lost !!
Proceed as follows:
First, you select the disk image file to be restored. To aid you, all known properties about the image at creation time are shown.
Next, you select the drive you want to restore.
Warning: All current available data will be lost forever. If you need any data from this drive, please save them before restoring the drive.
If you want to restore to a different drive then the original one, the partition size (PartSize) has to be larger or equal to the drive size; currently there is no resize of the disk.
First, you select the disk image file to be restored. To aid you, all known properties about the image at creation time are shown.
Additionally, you have (by using the right mouse click) the following options for managing the disk:
Right click on [HD1]
Restore Partition Structure: deletes the existing partitioning, and repartitions the disk like the original one; includes restoring the MBR
Restore MBR: restores just the first sector of the disk
CheckBoot: unfortunately, even 2007 some boot sector still use CHS addressing. If the original CHS translation is different from the new one, these leads to a non-booting disk. Detects and corrects some problems with not booting disks.
Clean Disk: effectively erases the complete disk by cleaning the disks first sector (MBR).
Clean Disk Signature/Restore Disk Signature: a 32 Bit number in the MBR, which is used by some Windows components to re-identify disks. initialised to some random number by disk manager.

FAQ's :
1. How can I check if my hard disk is working well?
a) Check the Health screen Here you will see S.M.A.R.T information which shows the condition of the hard disk. The status of each parameter should be Ok.
If the parameter is highlited in yellow it means that the parameter almost reached a critical value. At this point it is highly recommended to check this parameter regulary to see if the value becomes worse.
If the parameter is highlited in red it means that the parameter has reached a critical value. In this case you should make a backup of your data and replace the hard disk.
2. How can I verify the performance of my hard disk?
Run the benchmark functions and compare the results with the results from the database.
The graph should show that the hard disk starts at its maximum speed and slows down towards the end of the test. A few downward spikes in the graph are not a problem. It means that another application or Windows was accessing the hard disk during the test.
An important parameter of the test is the Burst Rate. This value should always be higher than the maximum transfer rate. A lower value is usually an indication of a configuration problem.
Some common problems are:
a) UDMA mode not active
Symptoms:
* the transfer rate is a flat line at +/- 3 MB/sec
* burst rate is +/- 3 MB/sec
* CPU usage is very high
Solution:
Enable Ultra DMA:
* Click on the Start button
* Select Run...
* Type devmgmt.msc in the dialog box and press enter
This will bring up the Device Manager.
* Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
* Double-click on either the Primary IDE Channel or Secondary IDE Channel
* Go to the Advanced Settings and make sure DMA if available is selected
Usually the hard disk is connected to the primary IDE channel.
UDMA mode 2 active
Symptoms:
* the transfer rate is a flat line at 20-30 MB/sec
* burst rate is +/- 30 MB/sec
Solution:
The maximum data transfer mode is UDMA mode 2 if a 40-wire IDE cable is used. Use an 80-wire IDE cable to use the full potential of your drive.

TestDisk was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table).
TestDisk is a free and useful program which queries the BIOS ( DOS/Win9x) or the OS ( Linux, FreeBSD) in order to find the Hard Disks and their characteristics ( LBA size and CHS geometry). TestDisk does a quick check of your disk´s structure and compares it with your Partition Table for entry errors. If the Partition Table has entry errors, TestDisk can repair them. If you have missing partitions or a completely empty Partition Table, TestDisk can search for partitions and create a new Table or even a new MBR if necessary.
However, it´s up to the user to look over the list of possible partitions found by TestDisk and to select the one(s) which were being used just before the drive failed to boot or the partition(s) were lost. In some cases, especially after initiating a detailed search for lost partitions, TestDisk may show partition data which is simply from the remnants of a partition that had been deleted and overwritten long ago.
TestDisk has features for both novices and experts. For those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, the command line parameters /log and /debug can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.
